A drabble is a 100-word story, a special kind of flash fiction. The name comes from Monty Python’s Big Red Book: “Drabble. A word game for 2 to 4 players. The four players sit from left to right and the first person to write a novel wins.” I learned that from this article: A Very Short Anthology. Even though I haven’t read too many great flash fiction stories, I’ve always liked the idea; it combines the brevity of poetry with the action of short stories.
And apparently there are a couple sites dedicated to — uh, drabbling? Check out 100 Word Stories and 100 Word Stories Podcast.
Coming across these sites has actually given me a bit of inspiration! I had thought that I’d turn my NaNoWriMo novel-type-thing into a short story, so maybe I’ll take a crack at turning my 50,000 words of drivel into a drabble!
