Time to Stop Learning and Start College
Nah, not really. I’m hoping I’ll have enough time for college and learning outside of college. I might even learn a few things in class!
I’m planning to compare what I learn in college to what I can learn for free on the internet. I have the utmost respect for my soon-to-be teachers and fellow students, but I still believe that self-education is the best education you can get.
Anyway, today is the last day of my gap year — the last day of freedom. Sitting here in my pajamas, in front of my computer (as always), I keep wondering if I’ve changed at all. Am I more mature? Have I “found myself” yet? I took a year off before college mainly to explore my interests, hoping the experience would give me a better idea of what I’d like to study in college. Well, so much for that! My gap year did the exact opposite. I’ve only gained more interests, so now I have an even longer list of subjects I might like to major in.
But at least now I’m ready to start college. One year ago, I couldn’t imagine sitting in a classroom for yet another four years. All other reasons aside, I took a year off simply because I needed a break. A nice, long, relaxing, unstructured break. Now that I’ve recovered from academic burn-out, I’m ready to go again. I hope.

In my opinion most learning depends on the student, so going to college won’t automatically make you learn, but it is a great opportunity. So, have you decided what you’re going to major in?

Congrats! And good luck moving forward to your first year in college. From what I’ve seen here, you’ve racked up a pile of new accomplishments, skills, and interests. I’m certain that they’ll serve you well.
P.S. I did see your meme-tag a few days back; I’ll get to it soon.

Hei Lizzy.
You sound rather nostalgic…
The secret of good studying is to know how to and where in to get the information needed; and you have shown us all that you possess the secret in great measures.
All the very best with the studies and all the other things in your life. You will do super- duper well. No doubts, do I have.
I understand for I studied so hard a couple years ago that I thought that me brains were going to burn!!

PS. Forget-us-not….

Wow, thanks for your insightful and encouraging comments! A few minutes ago I was feeling overwhelmed about this whole college thing… Weird how some text on a computer screen can actually cheer you up!
David - So true. I do tend to focus on how the education system needs to improve, but this is an amazing opportunity. I learned stuff even on this first day.
And no, of course I haven’t decided on a major yet! Me, decide? Haha, that’s a good one.
Kiri - Thanks so much — and I look forward to your post.
Riihele - Yup, I was very nostalgic yesterday. Still am. And I think my brain’s hurting already… and I haven’t even done any homework yet!
TGenial2K - Thanks, it’s great to know I have so much support.
I might ask you to write an essay for me sometime.
